Kids and Worship

The coolest thing happened the other day.  I was walking from our bedroom into the living room and I hear Micah (almost 4) singing, "I will sing a song of hope sing along, God of heaven come down, heaven come down...".  That's not really the easiest song to sing - but he was singing it!  I think it is one of his new favorites.

How did this happen?  Well, it happened due to a couple reasons.  First, we play songs like this all the time.  In the car, in the house, outside - it's all over the place.  Our kids hear these songs every day of the week!  Second, Sara specifically started singing "Song of Hope" to the boys and teaching them the words at lunch.  So - it totally reinforced a new song.

That leads me to another cool thing - and I love this.  I love on Sunday mornings at Connections when I hold Micah or Luke and they sing along with me.  A couple weeks ago it was singing "Blessed Be Your Name" and "How Great is our God."  Then last week it was singing "Open the Eyes of My Heart".  Micah can join in on at least the chorus of most of the songs we do at Connections, and even Luke knows a few songs.

If you are a parent with young kids - please let me encourage you to worship with them!  Get them involved.  Teach them the songs during the week, and then on Sunday pick them up, dance around and sing your praises to God!  Let them color, play with the kid's packs and roll on the ground for part of it, but for many of the songs try picking them up, dancing around and having fun as you worship the Lord together!

By the way, I asked Chris if we could get a CD to everyone of some of the more common songs we do at Connections.  It will take a while to record this, but it will be coming in the next couple of months.  I hope this will help you involve your kids in worship!

I know exactly what you mean. There are times during worship I'll look down at Chance,my 11 year old,and he'll be singing his little heart out with his eyes closed and just raising it up to the Lord.He really gets it.He understands what the songs mean. There are times after the service we'll be riding home and he'll tell us he really didn't understand the "message of the day"which for an 11 year old sometimes is confusing but I know he understands most of the songs,so I know he's getting filled,I think Connections is perfect for God's children and His older children too. Thanks to P.J and Chris and the Praise Team and all of the hard work done at St. Timothys.
