How My Father's Day Started...

Yesterday started off really cool.  At the risk of having imaginary on-line tomatoes thrown at me, I'll say that I'm not a huge "Father's Day" and "Mother's Day" type of guy normally.  I want Fathers and Mothers to be lifted up daily as God intended, not in a man-made way that seeks to sell more greeting cards.  But that being said, yesterday was a pretty cool Father's Day.

It started with a child's monitor.  They can be so obnoxious, but so useful!  Anyway, I was getting ready to leave the house at about 6:30am, and my wife (Sara) was taking a shower.  I could hear our youngest son, 22 months old, just jabbering away in his room.  And then I heard him say, over and over again, "Daddy hold you, Daddy hold you...".

We know he isn't saying it right, but how cool is that?  It's funny, but when Sara is holding him she'll ask him, "Do you want Daddy to hold you?"  And since he hasn't learned the proper grammatical rules regarding pronouns, he just says back, "Daddy hold you!"  (you have to imagine that cute, innocent 22 month old voice saying this - with just a hint of a whine in it)

Needless to say, yesterday was quite a great day!  The tribute from Sara and Micah just made it that much better.  But it was neat having that be the first thing I heard on Father's Day!  He wasn't saying it right, but who cares.  That didn't matter.  What mattered was that he wanted Daddy to be holding him.  He just wanted to feel safe and sound in Daddy's arms.

I bet that's pretty close to the way God feels.  He doesn't care if we say it wrong, He just wants to hear us say, "Daddy hold you!"

For His Glory,
pj

Few things warm my heart and give me more hope for the future than seeing young dads loving their wives and children with joy and intentionality. Thanks to the many strong men of God who are already raising up sons and daughters to be Christ followers. Your efforts are too often unnoticed and unsung, so to you, I wish a really blessed Father's Day!
