Audio Devotional: Feb 7th, 2008

Today's devotional is a brutal time of honest, down and dirty self examination and confession between you and God.  It's a time to uncover all of the dirt that God wants to wash away, and as you go through this devotional, and think about your specific sins, you must remember that it is only God's grace that can wash it away.  You can do nothing about it on your own.  You can't work a deal out with God.  You can't do enough good works to balance out your bad works.  You can't beat yourself up enough (you shouldn't beat yourself up at all - it won't help).

But as we rely on God's grace, we can't use that as an excuse not to face our sin.  We must face it, and we must come to see it for the horror that it is (I use that word in a very literal sense, not as exaggeration) in light of the glory of God.  We must see things as the Truly are.  When we see how horrific sin is, we can also see better how truly amazing grace is.

Take some time today to get alone with God and talk to Him, and allow Him to talk to you about your sins.  It may be an uncomfortable thing to do, but ask Him if there are any sins He wants to talk to you about, or if there are any sins in your life that you've been ignoring or are unaware of.  Allow Him to speak to you, and remember that He speaks to you out of love.

Very insightful. I appreciated the opportunity to refect, evaluate, and admit my own shortcomings. You presented this sensitive subject in a very un-harsh way.

Side note: in your text above, you state, "You CAN do enough good works to balance out your bad works." Did you mean CAN'T?
