Where Can I Serve?
Jesus told us, His disciples, to make disciples of all nations. One of the most important values of this church is our mission to the world. It begins in our own community, and spreads overseas to every nation. Church members are involved in a variety of ministries from things as simple as volunteering in the church office to overseas missions to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Children are our future. We take Children’s Ministry seriously at St. Timothy and want to provide ways to help you as parents and grandparents share the love of Jesus with the most precious of His flock. The pastors, elders, and staff at St. Timothy are constantly looking for ways to support parents in your God given role as the primary spiritual educators of your family. Sunday School, family events, Zone 45 (our special 4th and 5th grade youth group) are here to encourage and equip each of you and provide your children another way to learn about Jesus.
The goal of the St. Timothy student ministry is to engage our students in meaningful relationships with each other and Jesus Christ through fellowship with each other, serving the community and studying God’s Word.
Our students are involved in confirmation classes, mid-week Bible studies, local missions outreach, Sr. High mission trips around the United States and various group events.
If you would like more information on any student event contact Brad Jurischk.
Using media to spread the Gospel is a privilege of this church. In an age of widespread technology, we have a stewardship to use these tools as best as possible for kingdom purposes. We make every attempt to use media to enhance our worship services, to use technology for communication, and to better improve all areas of ministry. All of our weekly sermons are uploaded to our website in video and audio formats. Want to help with Tech on Sunday mornings? Contact the Church office and we will get you on a Tech Team!
DO SOMETHING: Our Service Commitment Statement
In 2010, St. Timothy committed to providing 25,000 “community hours” of transforming service to our community and the world. We succeeded with a total of 25,425 hours. We then challenged ourselves to “Do More!” We increased our commitment each year and are now going for another 35,000 hours given to others in Jesus’ name in 2016. Read more below and be sure to log your hours.
Community service is any act of service that has a direct impact on changing the physical and spiritual condition of the people in our community and the world for Christ. It can take many different forms, whether it’s participating in a ministry at St. Timothy, volunteering through a community organization, helping with Sunday Services, going on a mission, or simply giving your neighbor a hand. Each act of service initiates a domino effect and becomes a chain reaction when people “pay it forward” that will eventually result in Houston and beyond being transformed for Christ.
Doing something is about bringing people together and taking action that makes a difference – transforming lives and communities through the love of Jesus Christ.
Often, small groups of people are better able to interact and learn about a topic than larger groups are. For that reason, our church has LIFE Groups where we attempt to group members in the same life stage or of interest together. The size of the group is anywhere from six to twenty people. Everyone is encouraged to join a LIFE Group. If you are not in a LIFE Group or are new and ready to join one, contact Gloria Ruppel in the church office.
Each Sunday morning, Jr. and Sr. High students get their very own Bible study. Bible lessons are taught in such a way that every student gets to participate and learn. Wednesday night Pit Stop is a great opportunity for Jr. High students to build friendships with fun and active games followed by Bible Study/Confirmation. Sunday night FUEL is when our Senior High Students get together for all types of fun and Bible Study. No matter the event, life long friendships are developed while building a relationship with Christ as well.
Accountability among men is an act of integrity. Accountability is designed to protect, encourage, and develop men of all ages. Through Bible Study, activities, and men’s events, relationships are developed that encourage men to be men of faith. Weekly Bible Studies and Basketball games as well as annual events such as: fishing, golf, skeet shoot, and paintball are just some of the events for the men of St. Timothy. For more information contact the church office.
Women’s groups give the ladies in our church family special times of interaction. Our women’s ministry provides time for Bible Study, getting together for fun, weekend retreats, Bunco nights, Book Club, prayer, and opportunities to grow in our faith. No matter what age or stage of life, there are opportunities for you to build life long friendships. Contact Gloria Ruppel to find out when and where a specific group meets.
Are you a family with young children? You are at a stage of life that is often hard to schedule, you are learning as you go at times when it comes to parenting, you too need time to dig into God’s Word and to get together with other families to “brainstorm” how to deal with different things that only young families are going through. By joining with other young families, you can grow, learn, and build relationships with other young moms and dads thru fellowship events and Bible studies.
Once you get past fifty, the fun has just begun. Whether retired, just plain tired, or active as ever, the over-50 group at St. Timothy provides refreshment, ministry, and times of valuable interaction. A mentoring ministry gives older believers a chance to meet with and help younger believers grow in Christ. Our JOY (Just Older Youth) meet monthly for Bible Study and take quarterly bus trips to various locations around the Houston area. RWC (Rewired for Christ) meets weekly and is geared to our even “more mature” members (65 and up.)
St. Timothy seems to be “famous” for our food and fellowship. Our Fellowship Team provides coffee and donuts every Sunday morning along with a meal on Wednesday evenings before Pit Stop, Advent, and Lent Worship. Our BBQ Bubbas cook up some mouth watering BBQ, fried chicken and catfish, and all the fixin’s for various fellowship events and special occasions. All the while the men and ladies on these team develop relationships and have fun. If you would like to join the Bubbas or help out in the kitchen with a meal or on Sunday morning, please contact the church office.
Many volunteer service opportunities are available concerning Sunday worship services at St. Timothy.
Ushers play an important role on Sunday mornings. Men and women serve on rotating teams to guide traffic, help visitors, answer questions, provide direction, hand out bulletins, collect the offering and generally ensure that the services proceed problem free.
Readers assist in worship by reading the day’s Bible texts.
Partners in Prayer are available to pray with people at the worship services.
Children in Worship Opportunities include leading or assisting with Children’s Church, the Nursery, and Children’s Choirs.
